The Issaquah Rotary Run at Salmon Days

September 7th, 2010 | By:

Perhaps the event at Salmon Days with the greatest public participation is the Rotary Run on Sunday morning. Upwards of 1,600 runners and walkers turn out each year to take part in this colorful race. Some are serious runners who are competing for recognition and points, but the majority are out to get some good recreation and have fun.

The course is divided into 5K and 10K routes. Everyone starts at the same place, next to Sports Authority, and heads down Gilman Boulevard toward Front Street. The 10K course continues on Front Street past the display booths and the early-morning crowds. Everyone ends up back at the starting point.

Each year there is a growing contingent of walkers who want to join the fun but cover the course at their own pace. Following the run, the Rotary Club of Issaquah provides snacks, water, and awards. Perhaps the biggest award for the runners is the knowledge that this year their entry fee is supporting the Issaquah Schools Foundation.

Following the run is a special event sponsored by the Arbor Schools: a 1K Kids Dash in the parking lot near the finish line.
